Most Commonly Asked Questions
Hatfields & McCoys Historic Feud Driving Tour
Q. How much is the tour?
A. The tour itself is free. Our free brochure guides you from our Welcome Center location to each public historic site. The tour begins at our Welcome Center, located at 685 Hambley Blvd., Pikeville. The feud sites are open daily during daylight hours, and are also free admission.

An Audio CD or USB, available for $20, serves as a tour guide with voice acting and narration. It’s not required but is quite popular, as it works with the brochure to provide narration for the sites. It can be purchased online here and is also available at the Hampton Inn hotel’s front desk. The brochure can be downloaded here.
Q. What are the hours for the tour?
A. The feud sites are open every day from daylight till dark. The museums and other attractions that may be along the way each have their own individual hours of operation. The Welcome Center, where the tour directions begin, is open Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm, and Saturday from 9am-3pm, during the tourist season (these hours and days may change during off season, contact us for details).
Q. How long does the tour take?
A. The Hatfields & McCoys Historic Feud Driving Tour encompasses 3 area maps; The City of Pikeville, Kentucky (the “Law and Order” portion of the tour, McCoy burial site, McCoy Homeplace, Cotton Top Hanging Site, Historic Courthouse, etc.) takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete, depending on how long visitors stay at each site, and how much time they spend in the Big Sandy Heritage Center.
The Pike County/Tug Valley portion, or what we like to call “the Meat & Potatoes” of the tour, can take 2 to 3 hours to complete, and is located 25 miles away from Pikeville City in the Blackberry/Hardy/Matewan area.
The Hatfield Gravesites, located in Sara Ann, WV, adds around an hour or so to the tour, and features an amazing statue of Devil Anse Hatfield. The amount of time spent here also may include a trip to local museums and so on.
All in all, you should carve out the majority of a day to do the Hatfield McCoy Historic Feud Driving Tour.

Loretta Lynn’s Butcher Hollow Tour
