Global Fleming Clan Scottish Society Gathering

Pikeville, Kentucky will host a remarkable cultural event this winter as the Global Fleming Clan Scottish Society Gathering arrives at Brothers Wright Distilling Co. on January 2, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM EST. This special gathering welcomes visitors, genealogists, and heritage travelers interested in one of Scotland’s oldest armigerous clans.
A Heritage Rooted in Scottish History
Clan Fleming traces its origins to the medieval Flemish family that established large estates in Lanarkshire between the 14th and 18th centuries. The clan’s lineage began with Robert Fleming, a loyal supporter of Robert Bruce during a turbulent period in Scotland’s history. Fleming is remembered in legend for his role in the dramatic confrontation between Bruce and John Comyn in 1306—an event that shifted the course of Scotland’s fight for independence.
When Bruce was crowned King Robert I shortly thereafter, he rewarded Fleming with the baronies of Cumbernauld and Lenzie. For nearly 450 years, Cumbernauld stood as the principal seat of the Fleming family, and the motto “Let the deed shaw” became a lasting emblem of the clan’s legacy. Although the clan has been without an officially recognized chief since the death of Reverend Charles Fleming, 7th Earl of Wigtown, in 1747, members of the Fleming family and those of Fleming descent continue to carry forward this storied heritage.
An Evening of Fellowship and Local Craft Spirits
The Pikeville gathering invites guests to celebrate that heritage in the heart of Eastern Kentucky. Brothers Wright Distilling Co. offers a fitting backdrop for the event, blending Appalachian craftsmanship with traditions inspired by the Scottish Highlands. Attendees will have an opportunity to connect with others interested in clan lineage, Scottish culture, and the enduring legacy of the Fleming name.
The evening includes general admission programming along with optional enhancements such as a whiskey flight tasting and a guided tour of Brothers Wright Distilling Co. Visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a working craft distillery while enjoying the region’s approach to spirit making.
