Beautiful Pikeville-Pike County, Kentucky is quickly becoming an ideal destination for conferences and conventions of most any size. The Kentucky Association of Gerontology has made Pikeville, Kentucky their home for the past few days for their state annual conference. For the past year, Pike County Tourism CVB has been working to secure the conference, among others, as a part of an initiative to bring more conferences and conventions to the Pike County. “We have the resources, now we need the conferences and conventions,” said Tony Tackett, Pike County Tourism CVB Executive Director. “We offer a variety of venues to host conferences and conventions of most any size, such as the Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, East Kentucky Expo Center, The Landmark Inn, The Mark V and more.”
Pikeville’s new hotel, Hilton Garden Inn, welcomed the members with hospitality and accommodations that exceeded their expectations, with top notch facilities for breakout sessions and meetings. “We were thrilled to host the Kentucky Association of Gerontology Conference at our hotel” said Mike Alexander, General Manager of the Hilton Garden Inn of Pikeville. “It was great to meet such a fun loving group, and show them what Eastern Kentucky can offer in hospitality and amenities. I know they enjoyed our live music and historic tours. We look forward to welcoming them back in the future.”
Kentucky Senator Ray Jones, Pike County Judge Executive Wayne T. Rutherford and Pikeville Administrator of City Operations Sean Cochran were on hand to welcome the association with an fully catered opening breakfast. Keith Hall was also available during their awards ceremony to greet the attendees.
Pike County Tourism CVB provided live music, with local group Coaltown Dixie performing their unique blend of bluegrass. Other interesting activities were planned for the association to provide unique blend of leisure and entertainment to their conference, such as a Hatfield McCoy Feud Tour, a trip to the Pikeville Cut-Through overlook, and more.
The Kentucky Association of Gerontology
The Kentucky Association of Gerontology supports many aging programs including supportive services at Senior Citizens Centers across Kentucky. It also support 15 centers where hot lunches are prepared 5 days a week and meals are delivered to homes where needed. The Senior Community Service Program provides training, part-time employment and services to support health education for Kentucky’s aging population. Programs are also available for the prevention of elder abuse, mental anguish, mental illness, financial exploitation, neglect of the elderly and homecare services to individuals over age 60. Family caregiver services provide seven basic services for a family caregivers, including senior advocacy, long-term care education and nursing home issues investigation.
