October brings more than colorful leaves to the Appalachian mountains. It also brings ghosts, ghouls, and plenty of good times. Pikeville-Pike County, Kentucky celebrates Halloween with a full lineup of events for all ages, from live theatre and painting workshops to classic films and downtown festivities. Here’s your guide to making the most of spooky season in the mountains.

Painting Workshop: “October Night” at Pike County Public Library
Join Kenna’s Creative Canvas at the Pike County Public Library for a guided painting workshop that captures the spirit of autumn. Participants will create their own October Night painting, with all materials provided. This relaxing, step-by-step class is open to teens and adults and is a great way to add a touch of fall to your home décor.

“Dracula” Presented by Artists Collaborative Theatre
The Artists Collaborative Theatre (ACT) invites audiences to experience Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a gothic classic reimagined by playwright Treyton Blackburn and co-directed by Blackburn and Jason Justice. This original adaptation brings the tale’s familiar suspense, romance, and supernatural intrigue to life with a cast of talented local performers.
The production features a wide range of memorable characters, from the steadfast Jonathan Harker and the determined Mina Murray, to the tormented Renfield and Dracula’s haunting brides. Each performer has poured their energy and creativity into building a version of the story that feels both timeless and fresh.
This chilling stage production opens October 17 and runs through November 2 in the Pikeville High School Auditorium. Friday night performances begin at 7:30 p.m., with weekend showings scheduled through Halloween weekend.

Parking: Patrons should park at the Pike County Extension Office (148 Trivette Drive) on October 17, 18, and 31. A themed shuttle will take guests to the auditorium.
Important parking information: Audience members attending the Friday, October 17 (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday, October 18 (3:00 p.m.) performances should park at the Pike County Extension Community Arts Office, located at 148 Trivette Drive in Pikeville. A free shuttle will transport guests to and from the high school auditorium for these showtimes.
Opening night includes special activities hosted at the Extension Office, such as vampire-inspired art projects and “blood red carpet” photo opportunities.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Appalachian Center for the Arts

The Appalachian Center for the Arts once again hosts the Forbidden Planet Treasures Shadowcast performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This campy, cult classic combines outrageous humor, sci-fi parody, and audience participation in a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience. Fans are encouraged to dress up and join the interactive fun.

Downtown Pikeville transforms into a Halloween wonderland during the 15th Annual Nightmare on Main Street. Hosted by the City of Pikeville, this family-friendly event features trick-or-treating, costumes, live entertainment, and activities for children of all ages. Main Street will be lined with local vendors and decorated booths offering plenty of treats and Halloween cheer.

Get ready for a night of live music, costumes, and Halloween fun at the Wildfire Halloween Party inside the ballroom of the Appalachian Wireless Arena. This 21+ event features the energetic sounds of Wildfire, a seven-member band known for its mix of rock, funk, country, and crowd favorites. Enjoy dancing, contests, and more as downtown Pikeville lights up for Halloween night.
