The most famous feud in America has long since ended. Each year, the Hatfield and McCoy descendants gather in Pike County for various events, including the upcoming Hatfield McCoy Heritage Days in Pikeville, Kentucky.
The Hatfield McCoy Heritage Days events will take place September 16, 17, and 18, and will culminate with a very special service at the McCoy Well that Sunday, beginning at 10:00 am. Various members of the Hatfield and McCoy families speak, local musicians sing, with visitors welcome to experience the richness of our region’s heritage.
This year will be extra special as a unique presentation will be made at the Well Service, which is located in Hardy, Kentucky. Devil Anse Hatfield’s great-grandson Billy Hatfield, the grandson of Anse’s youngest son Tennyson Hatfield, will be speaking. Billy is an evangelist from Tulsa, OK, and is watched each week by tens of thousands of viewers on Facebook Live. His ministry will be presenting a $1000 Scholarship to a local feud descendant. Hatfield, along with the Belfry High School principal Mark Gannon, Belfry counselors, and Pike County Tourism CVB members Tony Tackett, Bob & Rita Scott (a Hatfield descendant and McCoy site property owner) made this selection from a choice of several fine young people at Belfry. The identity of the young recipient will be announced that morning.
This is a great event, drawing thousands to the region over the last few years.
