The Appalachian Center for the Arts presents Sleep in Safety: The Legend of Octavia Hatcher, October 22 through 31, 2020, in downtown Pikeville, Kentucky.
Since the early part of the 20th century, Octavia Hatcher’s monument has watched over the city of Pikeville from the cemetary on the hill. Octavia’s brief marriage to prominent Pikeville businessman James Hatcher ended suddenly when she suffered an unknown illness that resulted in her being buried alive.
This original, tragic story of her life and death is a chilling account which may explain why many say her spirit walks the graveyard to this day.

After careful consideration, Artists Collaborative Theatre, in conjunction with UK Cooperative Extension Services, and the Breaks Interstate Park , has decided to postpone the opening of “You Can’t Take it With You,” originally scheduled for this evening/weekend. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but after monitoring the COVID-19 situation throughout the week, and in compliance with the recommendation of state and local officials from today, we felt it was the best decision at this time. As a community theatre, the health and safety of the citizens of the local community and our cast and crew are of the utmost importance. Though no cases of the virus have been reported locally at this time, we feel it is in the best interest of everyone to protect those who are most vulnerable to the dangers of COVID-19 by doing our part to mitigate the potential spread of this illness. We will keep you updated on future show dates and times, and will resume our season when state and local officials and our leadership team have determined it is safe to do so. Artists Collaborative Theatre will be bringing the beloved comedy You Can’t Take It With You to stage March 12th through 29th, 2020. Showtimes will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday Matinee at 3:00 p.m.
Come experience the Hatfield McCoy Heritage Days Homecoming with us this fall from September 20th through the 22nd, 2019. Hatfield McCoy Heritage Days Homecoming is a celebration of the peace made between the Hatfields and McCoys, and serves as an event memorializing the events of the feud, as well as the steps the families took to officially bring the feud to an end. This event is open to the public, with visitors encouraged to discuss with the descendants of these famous feuding families anything they wish to learn about Hatfield & McCoy feud lore.
9 a.m. — 2 p.m. – Pikeville Farmer’s Market For craft vendor space and non-political information booths only, call Bridget Michelle Tackett at (606) 794-3033. Music will begin at 9:30 a.m., and will last until 2 p.m., featuring local talent.
Noon – Pig Roast with the Hatfields and McCoys (Pikeville Farmer’s Market).
3 p.m. – Blood Song Play Historic Pike County Courthouse on Main Street, admission $10 cash at the door. Featuring Hatfield-McCoy descendants telling their story.
10 a.m. – Hatfield & McCoy Feud Memorial Service: McCoy Homeplace and Well Site at Hardy for church service – 10 a.m. Church service conducted by William Hatfield, Ron McCoy, and Reo Hatfield.

ACT was awarded Coal Severance Tax funds to build a $400,000.00 black box theatre. In 2008, the new facility opened to feature year round, balanced season of six productions per year, sixteen performances per production, free educational program serving over fifty children per semester, along with educational outreach. We are a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, and we celebrated our 10th Anniversary of service to our area in July of 2012! Artists Collaborative Theatre is the most awarded community theatre in Kentucky, winning state, regional, and national awards.
